Apprenticeship Success: Reace Blower
Job Title: Production Team Leader
Employer: Hörmann UK Ltd
Quote: “I have a much better understanding of what my team expect of me in terms of guidance and leadership.”
Why an apprenticeship?
When my manager asked if I’d like to do a Team Leader apprenticeship, I jumped at the opportunity. I’ve been with Hörmann UK for eight years and this seemed a good way of gaining a professional qualification. My role involves delegating work to people in my team and finding solutions to problems. I make sure staff all rotate through the department and meet their KPIs. I also train staff and work on the shop floor. The apprenticeship has been incredibly informative and I have learned how to see things differently which has in turn enabled me to be better at my job.
Benefitting my business
I now carry out inductions with new employees as well as create my own charts so I can manage my team members. This ensures that everyone can work in every role within the team, therefore making us multi-skilled. This helps if someone is on holiday or off sick as there is always someone to step in. The training has opened many doors to progression and inspired me to advance my career within the company and move up the ladder. I’ve learned about equality and managing different behaviours. I’ve also learned new training strategies, how to adapt to individual needs and new ways of communicating so that KPIs are achieved more effectively.
The EDN difference
Working with an EDN Vocational Trainer has been great and I’ve really enjoyed the one-to-one workshops during which I would often pause a video to ask questions. My employer has been very supportive too, allowing me time to complete tasks. I’d say the apprenticeship has undoubtedly improved my job performance, particularly my communication skills.
