With a blend of practical experience, structured learning with bespoke masterclasses and tailored mentorship, apprentices gain the tools and confidence essential for lasting success and meaningful influence in any organisation.
What is an Emerging Leader?
An Emerging leader is a first line management role in a business or organisation. Emerging leaders’ responsibilities could include a specific project, operational matters or managing a team to deliver a clearly defined outcome. Emerging leaders provide direction, instructions and guidance to ensure the set goals are achieved.
Emerging leaders work in the private, public or third sector and in all sizes of organisations, so specific responsibilities will vary, but the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed will be the same regardless of sector and industry.
An Emerging leader’s key responsibilities can include:
- Leading projects
- Resolving problems
- Delivering operational plans
- Supporting, managing and developing team members
- Planning and monitoring workloads and resources.

Functional skills
If an apprentice is aged 16-18 and has not previously achieved the required level of English and maths, they will need to complete Functional Skills as part of their apprenticeship programme.
While Functional Skills are no longer mandatory for adult apprentices (19+), literacy and numeracy skills remain essential for success.
For those without prior English and Maths qualifications, we recommend level 1 maths and level 1 English to support career growth and workplace efficiency.
Our tailored support ensures these skills are seamlessly integrated into the apprenticeship journey, helping every apprentice develop these vital skills.
End assessment
The End Point Assessment (EPA) for the Emerging Leader Apprenticeship includes:
- Professional discussion, underpinned by a portfolio of evidence
- Presentation with questions and answers.
Professional support
Every apprentice is assigned a personal EDN Vocational Trainer who will meet with the apprentice face-to-face and online throughout the programme.
